Soul singer and Grammy-nominated Ledisi is a great vocalist, she holds it down. In her new album titled "Pieces of me" she opens with a song of the same title, where she sings "Like every woman I know.../I'm complicated fo sho.../But when I love I love til there's no love no mo/These are the pieces of me" and those lyrics resonate with me and every other woman.
She shows us all the pieces of her, shes sensual on "Coffee" and "So Into You" showing us her libido,the ego as she sings "Hate Me" and "Shut Up; the heart when she features Jaheim in "Stay Together"; celebration and gratitude in "Bravo" and "Shine". One song that captures me is "I Miss You Now" and its so well done that you can almost feel the emotions expressed there.
On "BGTY" an upbeat old school jam that means "Be Good To Yourself" she focuses on treating yourself right!
A great album, that I recommend to neo-soul music lovers.....
